Effort To Rein In Building Mandates Fails In Committee

This week a bill preventing counties and municipalities from forcing builders to install sprinkler systems in new single family dwellings failed in the Senate Local Government Committee.
“It’s a shame this bill didn’t pass,” said Grantham. “Local governments should not be needlessly driving up the cost of home ownership.”
Senate Bill 81 introduced by Senator Kevin Grantham, R-Canon City, would have prohibited local governments from requiring sprinkler system installation in single family homes. The price to install sprinkler systems is in the thousands of dollars, the cost of which will be passed along to new homeowners.
The bill was killed on a party line vote.
