The whimsical characters the Easter Bunny and Cupid were “wanted for tax evasion” at the Colorado Capitol today as Democrats attempt to raise taxes on candy and soft drinks.
Republican Senators were handing out the wanted posters to illustrate the unfair nature of the tax hike proposal. "This is just gratuitous taxation, and it’s arbitrary,” said Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray. “They tax candy but not cookies, cake and ice cream.”
House 1191 is currently being considered in the Senate Finance Committee. It is one of nine tax hike measures that would raise taxes on Colorado families and businesses by $335 million. That sum is on top of the $1 billion tax increases passed by the legislature last year.
