Republican Senators signed on to a letter, sent from Rep. Cory Gardner, R -Yuma, urging Colorado’s Congressional Delegation to oppose a pro-union amendment to H.R. 4899. The amendment proposed by Democrat Rep. David Obey, from Wisconsin, requires states to negotiate in collective bargaining contracts with police officers, firefighters and emergency responders.
“This amendment would be extremely dangerous for Colorado,” Said Senator Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud. “Not only will the cost of public safety increase drastically; it could also impede our access to emergency services.”
The letter urges Colorado’s Congressional Members to oppose the “backward amendment.” It also states that “Colorado cannot afford this dangerous, overreaching mandate.” The state is already facing a billion dollar budget cliff next year.
